REEF ICP Lab
The best concept from experience
We, Fauna Marin GmbH, have been dealing with keeping and propagating sensitive tropical marine animals for decades. By producing suitable aquarium technology and highly effective care products, we create ideal conditions for the sustainable care of the animals in the aquarium.
Fauna Marin not only develops systems for the successful care of corals and other marine animals, we also operate one of the largest breeding and keeping facilities for corals in Europe. Our vegetative reproduction of highly sensitive and exceptionally beautiful SPS corals has made us famous worldwide.
With the help of this long-standing experience – and last, but not least, inspired by the perfection and aesthetics of marine nature – we design excellent products for aquaculture and marine aquatics and continue to improve it.
Our products are aimed at dedicated reefer and professional companies with equally high demand for best quality and high efficiency.
The Fauna Marin ICP laboratory
The in-house water analysis laboratory of Fauna Marin GmbH is equipped with the most modern devices for water analysis. Our test equipment is designed to meet the special requirements of the analysis of highly complex and chemically complicated seawater.
A team of experienced chemists, biologists and coral farmers with a doctorate degree in chemistry operates a variety of different analytical instruments and examines the water samples you send in every day.
Our company’s own EDP system has direct access to all analytical processes. The results of all samples are managed in a database. As our customer, you always have access to your individual data via a password-protected access and can extend your account with new sampling points as you wish.
In order to be able to evaluate your measurement data, we developed an interpretation procedure adapted to aquatics. This enables us to offer you not only laboratory data but also warning and limit values and to compare water values. Based on our interpretation procedure we also obtain knowledge about trend developments and give you individual tips and advice on aquarium care or problem solving suggestions. All test results, diagrams and recommendations for action from our water analysis laboratory are presented to you in a compact and clear form.
The connected database considers all values in all their complexity, compares them and shows you the best way to a perfect coral reef aquarium. It has never been so easy!
Simple, practical and well-thought-out
With our analysis sets for seawater, your samples can be taken and returned clean, quick and easy.
REEF ICP TEST
is a pure ICP test with 37 measured values for a quick and highly accurate overview of your water values. To be measured:
Macro elements and halogens
Sodium, Magnesium, Sulphur, Calcium, Potassium, Strontium, Boron, Bromine, Iodine
Macronutrients
Phosphorus, Total phosphate, Silicon
Relevant trace elements
Zinc, Vanadium, Copper, Nickel, Manganese, Molybdenum, Iron, Chromium, Cobalt

Quality Analysis
Our internal quality management is unique in seawater analysis and monitors all steps from preparation and analysis to validation and proper disposal of your sample. Working according to the strict rules of laboratory quality management “GLP” is as natural for us as participating in inter laboratory tests with recognized institutes and large aquariums. The daily check of the water values of our coral propagation facility and the validation of the measured values at our facilities and corals as well as by means of original Atlantic sea water ensures our unique analysis quality.
We do not use standard procedures for our analyses, which are common in drinking water laboratories. Seawater is highly complex and places the highest demands on modern analysis technology and methodology.
Fauna Marin has developed special dosing systems and calibration methods for this purpose, in order to be able to carry out seawater samples with an unprecedented reproducibility and speed. Of course, all sample-relevant characteristics are taken into account and implemented in the methodology.
In most cases the processing of your analysis takes only 1–2 days.
Besides adapted ICP-OES atomic emission spectrometers we use ion chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, titration, photometry and other professional laboratory equipment for your analyses.
You get all this for an extraordinarily low price. Our low price has no influence on the quality of your analyses. It is due to the very high sample quantities, favorable purchase prices for laboratory sets and process gas. We do not need external experts or expensive consultants, but pass these cost advantages on to you in full. Our experts work every day in our company, have everything under control and are also involved in the daily work on our corals.
Analysis software
As a modern seawater laboratory we use a “LIMS” software developed by us. LIMS stands for Laboratory Information and Management System.
We have developed it especially for saltwater aquariums. With the help of the stored databases and the AI software, the system compares your analyses with thousands of reference data and thus ensures an extraordinary analysis quality. Our system analysis also considers the possibility of disturbance measurements and puts these into perspective with regard to the pollutant elements. This way you can always see whether displayed values are relevant for your aquarium at all.
All laboratory data are processed in the system, the necessary steps are recorded according to your measured value, the relation values are calculated and measured, then the data are processed in a comprehensible way and provided with detailed recommendations for action. Our laboratory software does not simply use the resulting data here, as these are also weighted and interpreted according to analysis quality.
In addition to your data, you will receive complex progression analyses, direct graphical tables for relational observation and comparative analyses between the important elements and your previous analyses. You can choose between a simple or a complex representation. Of course, you can also share all analyses.
Support
Even the most detailed software cannot answer all questions. We operate a special forum for you to directly consult the analyses.
